Topaz

Greek work topazos, which is the ancient name for St. John’s Island in the Red Sea.  Topaz consists of fluorine aluminium silicate.

Topaz comes in all colors, but its most valuable color is a golden orange-yellow. It also comes in yellow, brown, blue, light blue, red, and pink, just to name a few.  When the stone is heat-treated, it achieves the blue color. Topaz can also be colorless –silver topaz, which makes an excellent substitute for a brilliant cut diamond. Topaz is sometimes found as enormous flawless crystal making them an exquisite gem pieces in fashion jewelry.

Topaz also come in different grades depending on its localities. For example, Topaz found in Russia is least desirable as gemstone because of its ability to fade upon long exposure to light.  It is recommended that when purchase Topaz stone; one should inquire about its origin.

Topaz is the stone for the month of November. In mysticism, Topaz is believed to dispel sadness, anger and gears. It is alleged to make men handsome and intelligent and make women fertile and happy.
